Happy days

What an amazing evening that was! Thank you everyone for being there. there we so many of you, and we had the pleasure of watching our friends play amazing music. We got to perform songs from our latest album ‘Passing Shadows’ for the first time! The Nijverheid proved to be a great and versatile location with amazing people that helped out the entire time and made us feel welcome.

Thanks especially to the bands that played this evening. Check them out if you can! Postkamer played their first-ever performace in a crowded boat, a beautiful set of dutch songs with musical references like the Notwist or Karate. Handen en Voeten also played their first ever (intense) set in a crowded and sweaty boat, and were only formed a few weeks before this festival. Hoek en de Verdwijners presented their album Dromer and a new video with a slow, relaxed and dutch spoken melancholic set. Immen made an entire crowded boat go quiet with her mix of frysian and english songs. Echo Beach played a first-ever electronic set with only two of the four members, and they sounded very, very good. Go and see them if you have the chance. Klankroes only played they second show ever, and their mix of house, techno and electro with live drums was the perfect end of the evening. The talented Lisanne Lentink made beautiful pictures of this evening.

Thank you again for coming! X

Release show – 6th of june!

We are releasing our album Passing Shadows soon, and will celebrate it with a double release party on the 6th of June at de Nijverheid in Utrecht, together with Hoek en de Verdwijners who will also release their album Dromer. We will be joined by several amazing artists and friends.

Echo Beach from Amersfoort plays dreamy indie rock and plays tonight in a stripped down electronic setting. Postkamer is a new project by Tom Gerritsen (Classic Water) and Wouter Kors (We vs Death). Their shared past in the mailroom of a large hospital turns out to be a goldmine for songs (think Boudewijn de Groot meets The Notwist). Témy Phem from Utrecht classic Kismet shows new work after years under the name Handen en Voeten. Immen plays her fantastically beautiful folk songs in Frisian or English, and Klankroes is a brand new band that shows a mix of house and dance with live drums.

Poster by Roel Dalhuisen.

Doors open 18:30, start 19:00 sharp.

Get your tickets here, see you there!

In This Life

We released our new single In This Life out into the world last friday! It’s been a journey but it feels good to have the first song out after quite some time.

In This Life is a song about trying to find answers to something impossible to reflect on. Recently 3voor12 Utrecht put it into very kind words, as you can read here.

This is the first song we recorded in the studio, and it only took two takes. Our plan for the recording was to set everything up on friday, and then record everything in one go (mostly live) in a few days. On friday evening we did a test recording with this song, listened to it again on saturday and decided to keep these takes.

In This Life is now available on spotify, apple music, and most other music providers. Happy listening!

New beginnings

The last few years a lot of things happened. Some good, some bad, some amazing. I guess it’s a cliché, but getting older these things get more intense and have more meaning, but meanwhile there seems to be less time to fully take everything in.

After creating our record it took quite a while to finish all the details. We did not want to rush things and we will take it how it comes. We think it was worth the wait, and hope you will too. Meanwhile life happened, people got married and also managed to create little additions to their families.

Settling in to this new life and new beginnings we feel like it’s time to pick up our music again. This year we will release our new album Passing Shadows on June 6th, and we will celebrate it with a release show in de Nijverheid, together with Paul Hoek (who will release his album Dromer) and several good friends that make great music.

More on this show and our release later. For now it’s practice time!

Our Recording Journey

A little over a year ago, we started an exciting journey that led to the creation of our new album. It was an intense yet incredibly rewarding experience, and we wanted to share some of the behind-the-scenes moments with you.

Months of Practice: Getting Ready

Before we even thought about stepping into the studio, we spent several months practicing. We wanted to record the album live, which meant we needed to be tight as a band. Our rehearsals were intense, but they brought us closer together and made us feel more connected to our music.

Five Days in the Studio: Making It Happen

When the big day came, we were ready. We recorded 13 songs over five days in our old practice studio, now called the Soundbird Studio. Our good friends Matthijs (also a former Boyle member) and Douwe produced and recorded the album, and also brought in an analogue tape recorder! It was a lot of hard work, but it went surprisingly smoothly. There were long hours and quite a few takes, but we were in it together and that made all the difference. Recording live was a challenge but it also brought out the best in us. We fed off each other’s energy and created something we’re really proud of.

Adding the Finishing Touches: Vocals, Mixing, and Mastering

Once the basic tracks were done, we took our time adding the vocals over the next year. We wanted to make sure everything sounded just right. Then, we worked with some great professionals to mix and master the album. Their input was invaluable and helped us polish the final product.

What’s Next: A Sneak Peek

We’re really excited about the new album, but it’ll be a little while before it’s fully ready for release. In the meantime, we’re planning to release one or more songs later this year as a preview. We can’t wait for you to hear them and get a taste of what’s to come.

Thanks for being part of this journey with us. Stay tuned for more updates, and we hope you’ll enjoy the new music as much as we’ve enjoyed making it.

Boyle Unveils Enchanting Single ‘Lighter’

Utrecht, 03-01-2024 – Boyle, the versatile musical collective from Utrecht, brings forth a new sound with the revelation of their latest single, ‘Lighter.’ This captivating composition, ranging from indie folk to indie rock, not only marks the band’s debut in their revamped lineup but is also accompanied by an intimate DIY video featuring lead vocalist Marten Timan during a contemplative backpacking journey through the picturesque Spanish mountains.

Boyle comprises Marten Timan (guitar, vocals), Thijs Kuijken (guitar, vocals), Dave Mollen (drums, vocals), and Lotte van Leengoed (bass guitar, synths, vocals). The band is currently in the final phase of producing their upcoming album. This highly anticipated album, set for release in 2024, features a balanced mix of tracks, ranging from gently plucked guitars to experimental synths and more robust numbers, showcasing the band’s musical versatility.

‘Lighter,’ not appearing on the band’s upcoming album, is a thoughtful composition infused with delicate melodies, revealing the emotional journey of two individuals realizing they lead better lives apart. As the serene melodies embrace the listener, the atmospheric visuals of the Spanish nature in the DIY video become a visual extension of the story that ‘Lighter’ narrates.

The DIY video, captured by the band members themselves, offers a personal glimpse into Marten Timan’s contemplative journey. As he traverses the majestic mountains, the video intimately captures the connection between the music and the natural surroundings, creating an atmosphere of authenticity and adventure.
