Passing Shadows

Passing Shadows is the new full-length album from Utrecht-based indie-rock band Boyle. Over eleven tracks, the album explores themes of grief, love, renewal and hope — shaped in part by the loss of frontman Marten Timan’s brother a few years ago.

The songs are intimate and layered, blending carefully woven guitar parts, subtle electronics, and understated vocals. The sound shifts from delicate and quiet (Headphones & Highways, Truth) to rich, dynamic crescendos (Will Be Here, Calling), always leaving space for reflection.

Influences include acts like The National, Morphine, and Portishead — with acoustic elements sitting alongside experimental textures and thoughtful arrangements. Passing Shadows is Boyle’s most personal and cohesive work to date: an album that resonates deeply, offering both melancholy and quiet hope.

In This Life

In This Life is the first single from the upcoming album Passing Shadows. It is a song about trying to find answers to something that is impossible to reflect on. The song is available on Spotify, Apple Music and most other major music providers.

Lighter

Lighter is a thoughtful composition infused with delicate melodies, revealing the emotional journey of two individuals realizing they lead better lives apart. As the serene melodies embrace the listener, the atmospheric visuals of the Spanish nature in the DIY video become a visual extension of the story that ‘Lighter’ narrates.

The DIY video, captured by the band members themselves, offers a personal glimpse into Marten Timan’s contemplative journey. As he traverses the majestic mountains, the video intimately captures the connection between the music and the natural surroundings, creating an atmosphere of authenticity and adventure.

Faults

Faults is the second single of Boyle. The song was written in 2000 but only recorded and released many years later.

Enter

Enter is the first single from Boyle. The song is about a general mentality in small towns I noticed to be similar all around the world. The video is shot in the town of Oia on the secluded island of Santorini (Greece). The view looks like a stage in which life is slowly taking place.
